Note: The God Of The Month editors, being Chaos Magicians, subscribe to the concept of meta-belief -- that any given invocatory paradigm is as magically useful as any other, the determining factor being the amount of "belief" (either on-going or transitory) invested into the Work by the Magician. This includes not only those mythologies with an "authentic" historical background, but also those created originally as an artistic construct in more recent times. Such mythologies and their pantheons can include recent works of popular art such as Clive Barker's "Cenobites" from Hellraiser, H.P. Lovecraft's "Old Ones" of the Cthulhu Mythos, or J.R.R.Tolkien's "Valar", the extensive Elvish Pantheon described in The Lord of the Rings and The Simarillion. Whether or not the creators of these mythologies ever intended them to be used "seriously" for magical purposes is beside the point. The magician's universe begins and ends with the magician hirself -- all gods and demons are we!
